The Substrate Base
Hardwood Sawdust (Beech)
Our Lion’s Mane substrate utilizes a fine-grind beech sawdust base to maximize the available surface area for rapid mycelial colonization.
This specific particle size facilitates strong attachment and efficient nutrient access, which is critical for supporting the physical weight of large, heavy fruiting bodies.
The consistent lignin profile of the beech provides a stable, long-term energy source, ensuring the mycelium maintains its vitality throughout the entire production cycle.
The Supplements
Nutrient Boost
To support the specific metabolic demands of Hericium erinaceus, we incorporate a nitrogen-rich supplement of nutrient boost.
While Lion’s Mane can grow on lower nutrition, this targeted supplementation ensures the nitrogen levels required for the mushroom to develop its signature dense, cascading “icicles.”
This balanced formulation increases biological efficiency, resulting in heavier fruit bodies with improved density, vibrant color, and superior shelf life.
The Pasturisation Standard
Bulk Steam Technology (95°C)
Lion’s Mane mycelium is naturally wispy and slower to establish than other species, making it vulnerable to early-stage competition.
Our proprietary Bulk Pasteurisation process (95°C) creates a competition-free environment, allowing the Hericium to establish total dominance without the risk of green mold (Trichoderma) interference.
This intensive thermal treatment ensures that the delicate colonization phase is protected, leading to a more resilient and uniform substrate block ready for high-performance fruiting.
Process
Our atmospheric steam treatment at 95°C breaks down the hemicellulose in the beech wood, making it easier for the Lion’s Mane mycelium to digest.
This results in a faster “fruiting readiness” compared to standard wood-chip based substrates.

Pom Pom Blanc is an efficient producer.
While it can produce multiple flushes, the first flush is always the highest quality and most visually impressive.

For a wood-based sterilised 2.5 kg block (approx. 1.0kg dry matter), growers can expect a total yield of 0.5 kg – 0.625 kg of fresh mushrooms.

To achieve the highest “Pom Pom” quality, we recommend a side-fruiting technique to focus all the block’s energy into few massive, premium fruiting bodies.
