1. Conventional Substrate — The Engine of Efficiency

The Conventional substrate line is engineered for one primary metric: Biological Efficiency (BE).

Composition and Chemistry

The conventional formula utilizes the standard, high-performance mix of straw-rich horse manure, chicken manure, wheat straw, gypsum, and water.
Crucially, the conventional line allows for the use of synthetic or non-organic nitrogen sources and supplements.

Supplementation

Growers can request the addition of specific supplements (such as soy meal, feather meal, or commercial delayed-release nutrients) to boost the protein content of the compost.
These supplements provide a “slow-burn” energy source for the mycelium during the later flushes, significantly pushing the yield potential. 

Target Market

This substrate is the industry standard for the high-volume retail market, food service sectors, and the processing industry (canning, freezing).
It delivers the consistent, high-tonnage yields required to compete on price in the global commodity mushroom market.
The biochemical profile of conventionally grown mushrooms typically shows higher levels of crude protein and zinc, supporting their nutritional value as a protein source.

2. Organic Substrate — The Premium Proposition

Certified Supply Chain Constraint 

The defining characteristic of the Organic line is the rigorous provenance of its inputs.
Every component must be certified organic or approved for organic use:

  • Straw
    Must be sourced from fields managed without synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or GMOs.
  • Manure
    Must originate from organically reared livestock or approved extensive farming systems where animals have access to pasture and are not treated with routine antibiotics.   

Supplements

Synthetic nitrogen sources (urea) and non-organic protein supplements are strictly prohibited.
Nitrogen must be derived from organic plant meals or organic manures.

Biological Profile and Yield Trade-offs 

The restriction on synthetic nitrogen boosters means that Organic substrate typically has a lower total nitrogen density compared to a heavily supplemented conventional mix.
Consequently, the raw yield (kg/m²) is often lower. However, this quantitative reduction is often offset by qualitative gains.
Research indicates that organically grown mushrooms accumulate higher levels of ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and exhibit significantly lower redox potential—a marker often associated with higher physiological vitality and stress resistance in plant tissues.   

Market Positioning

This substrate allows growers to access the “Halo Sector”—the premium retail and health-food market.
Consumers in this segment are willing to pay a significant price premium for the assurance of pesticide-free, sustainable production.
